Fuses are protective devices which breake the circuit in which they are connected, when the electrical power overcomes a certain level of time or value, by melting one or more fusible elements. They may be protected by a ceramic coating, or encapsulated in plastic, or mounted on a ceramic substrate

Fuses are protective devices which interrupt the circuit in which they are connected, when the electrical power overcomes a certain level of time or value, by melting one or more fusible elements. They may be protected by a ceramic coating, or encapsulated in plastic, or mounted on a ceramic substrate. Fuses are divided into two classes of operation, defining the power they can interrupt: class of operation g (general purpose fuses) - includes those fuses whose replacement elements resist to currents less or equal to their nominal current - or class of operation a (associated fuses) includes those fuses whose replacement elements resiste to currents less or equal to their nominal current and can interrupt, in precise conditions, all the currents starting with a certain multiple of their nominal value to their breaking value.
